Initially Avaya was founded after a spin off of Lucent Technologies in 2000. In 2009 Avaya purchased Nortel Networks Enterprise Vocie and Data business unit. Avaya offers a range of business communications solutions for unified communications and collaboration, customer experience management (call center solution), cloud services and networking for different industries on a global base.

Avaya Platforms

The main platform is called Avaya Aura®. It is a typical solution for soft migration from TDM-based infrastructure to pure Voice over IP. The solution consists of the Avaya Aura® Communication Manager, the Avaya Session Border Controller and the Avaya Aura® Virtualized Environment. The solution supports up to 250.000 users. It supports a variety of traditional telephony services and integrates analog, digital and IP-based clients as well as softphones and mobile devices (DECT, WLAN). It targets medium and large enterprises.

Avaya Aura® Communication Manager may be realized as a high availability solution with survivable servers or gateways.

Avaya Session Border Controller for Enterprise provides security for SIP trunking and remote users like a firewall in data networks.

Communications Server 1000 is a platform initially developed and sold by Nortel Networks and is dedicated to users of former Nortel Networks equipment.

The IP Office™ platform is a midmarket collaboration solution for up to 2000 users.

The solutions support SIP, ITU-T H.323, DECT, WLAN, ISDN, QSIG and many other industry standards.

Avaya has a large number of different IP phone types. Users may select terminals from very simple ones up to multimedia terminals (E169) with docking options for smartphones an tablets.

Avaya Applications and Services

Different applications and services for e.g. video and conferencing, communication and messaging, mobility, call center and many others are available.
